Like the metamorphosis of the caterpillar into a butterfly, so too is the continual change of man. Art is one way of illustrating this change. Here, the pictures of artist Dirk Jakobs serve as a signpost, as a starting point for our own respective, individual metamorphoses. “Imago 2007” aims to deepen self-awareness and sharpen our focus. Jakobs: “emotions, principles, values, habits, awareness, mentalities – my art describes what makes us people, it illustrates the uniqueness and fascination that is in each of us and which must come into its own. In a way, my pieces aim to achieve a change in life-view. They aim to liberate. As, change is life and life can also be found in art and therefore also in my pictures.” Reality and fantasy, what is and what we imagine and desire – with Jakobs, these are not played off against each other. On the contrary: the two are united – symbiotically combined. The powerful element in the art is transferred here and now to the observer. It provides the thrust, as it were, which is sometimes needed for us to change: as, although people often want something to change, they also want to stay with the old. However, the aim is to take away the observer’s fear – the fear of change. The art serves to raise awareness: now is the time to begin something new and to trust the magic of a beginning.
There is magic in every beginning and this beginning is one that is sometimes hidden in the shapes and colours of »Imago 2007«.
